FAQS

NAATI FAQ

It refers to the Credential Community Language Test (CCL) which is a testing and assessment service related to the migration and other government services. Through this test, you will be able to claim 5 extra bonus point for PR.
NAATI Certification is an independent assessment of skills for interpreters and translators in Australia. NAATI certified interpreters and translators are recognised as currently active in the profession, and committed to ongoing professional development. Whereas, NAATI CCL test helps individuals to claim five points for their permanent residency.
NAATI CCL Test determines a candidate’s ability to convey the meaning of a conversation from English language to LOTE (Language Other Than English) and vice versa. In the CCL Test, a testing officer plays a recording for the test taker to interpret and translate. This recording consists of two dialogues. Each dialogue represents a conversation between a native English Speaker and a native LOTE speaker. A candidate’s response is recorded for the marking procedure. Each dialogue is of approximately 300 words, nearly half in English and half in LOTE. The dialogue is again divided into different segments. Each segment is of maximum 35 words. The time allotted for the test is maximum 30 minutes.
At least two trained examiners mark CCL tests independently. The CCL test comprises two dialogues and each dialogue is marked by the examiner using a deductive marking system. CCL test candidates will primarily be marked on their ability to communicate effectively in English and the Language other than English (LOTE). Language quality (both LOTE and English) is considered and the candidate must also reflect the elements of register and style in the original. Candidates should demonstrate full comprehension, and language production should conform to the accepted norms of the language. Marks will be deducted for errors in the above elements (this includes grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary and register). Each dialogue receives a mark out of 45. In order to pass a candidate needs to score at least 29 out of 45 for each dialogue and score at least 63 out of 90 overall. When NAATI issues the result for the CCL test it will be based on the mark achieved:
  • PASS: 63 or higher (out of 90)
  • MARGINAL FAIL: between 55 and 62.5 (out of 90)
  • CLEAR FAIL: less than 55 (out of 90)
Applicants who are planning to sit a NAATI CCL test must be submitted their applications online via the NAATI website. You will need to attach a passport photograph and a scan of an appropriate identity document (e.g. passport) to apply.
The NAATI CCL normally covers real life situations which typically relates to the Australian society. It covers these topics such as education, social services, health, legal, business, financial, employment, insurance, immigration, housing, consumer affairs and community.
NAATI CCL testing will be available in the following cities:
