PTE Academic – Speaking Module: Updated Marking Criteria and Score

The PTE Speaking section has been updated in August 2025 to better assess real-life communication skills. The new format emphasizes fluency, pronunciation, and meaningful content delivery, crucial elements for success in your PTE Academic exam in Brisbane.
Key Change in PTE Speaking Module
‘Read Aloud’ now contributes exclusively to the Speaking module, not Reading.
New PTE Speaking Tasks (Effective August 2025)
- Summarize Group Discussion
- Respond to a Situation
PTE Speaking Task Types & Score Contribution (Total ~90 Marks):
- Read Aloud – Speaking only (~22-24 marks)
- Repeat Sentence – Speaking + Listening (~30-32 marks)
- Describe Image – Speaking only (~10-12 marks)
- Retell Lecture – Speaking + Listening (~8-10 marks)
- Answer Short Question – Listening + Speaking (~6-8 marks)
- Summarize Group Discussion – Speaking + Listening (~8-10 marks)
- Respond to a Situation – Speaking only (~6-8 marks)
PTE Speaking Assessment Criteria:
- Content: Relevance and completeness of the
