The LanguageCert Academic exam assesses the four core English skills—Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking—in a practical and candidate-friendly format. The test lasts approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes and is available both online with remote proctoring and at official test centers.
Listening (30 minutes)
The Listening test evaluates the ability to understand spoken English in a variety of contexts. Candidates hear recordings of conversations, discussions, and monologues in different accents.
- 26 questions across multiple parts
- Task types: multiple choice, sentence completion, and short-answer questions
- Skills assessed: identifying main ideas, following details, understanding speakers’ attitudes and opinions
This module ensures that candidates can understand both everyday conversations and academic or professional discussions.
Reading (45 minutes)
The Reading test measures comprehension and interpretation of written texts from academic, professional, and general contexts. Texts are taken from articles, reports, or essays.
- 26 questions across multiple parts
- Task types: matching headings, multiple choice, true/false/not given, and sentence completion
- Skills assessed: understanding arguments, identifying supporting details, recognising tone and purpose
It tests whether candidates can process information quickly and interpret meaning accurately, which is essential for study or work.
Writing (45 minutes)
The Writing test checks the ability to communicate clearly in written English with proper structure and vocabulary.
- Task 1: Write a short essay or formal response (150–200 words), often opinion-based
- Task 2: Write an extended response (250–300 words) such as an essay, report, or letter
- Skills assessed: task achievement, coherence and cohesion, range of vocabulary, and grammatical accuracy
This module focuses on clarity, organisation, and argument development, which are key for academic success and professional communication.
Speaking (12–15 minutes)
The Speaking test evaluates spoken English in real-life and academic contexts. Unlike IELTS, it is recorded and assessed later, which reduces test-day anxiety.
- Part 1: Introduction and personal questions about familiar topics
- Part 2: Short talk (individual presentation on a topic)
- Part 3: Discussion (analytical or opinion-based questions)
- Skills assessed: fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammatical range, and ability to present arguments clearly
This module reflects how well candidates can communicate ideas confidently in English.
Why This Structure Stands Out
- Entire test completed in under 5 hours
- Results available in about 3 business days
- Stress-free speaking test, since responses are recorded and assessed by trained examiners
